issues and debates

There are many issues and debates that cover the society of gangs. I will be discussing gang crimes in particular areas and how this has increased the crime and death rates and also the consequences, by looking at these films and getting my research about gangs s I should be able to identify why these gangs are made, the purpose of them and are they all stereotypes of typical thugz. clearly in the 2 examples below not all gangs conform the representation of "thugz" and deal with drugs and murder.

My plans for the summer is to watch films that involve gangs for whatever reason they are conformed and also do research on the development of gangs and get statistics on the crime rates etc. I will also analyse films such as "kidulthood" and "adulthood" as this film apparently gets in2 the audiences minds and makes them hyper and make them start a gang hence the quote "from kidulhood to adulthood" and here i will research why this is the case <<< i dunno why i rote that, maybe just to make this section longer haha

KEY SCENES

THERE IS A SCENE IN GET RICH OR DIE TRYING AT THE BEGINNING WHERE IT START OF WITH 50 CENT AND HIS GANG DO A ROBBERY SCENE HOWEVER UNFORTUNATLEY THE EMBEDDING OF THE SECENE WAS DISABLED SO I WASNT ABLE TO PUT IT UP BUT ILL GIVE A BRIEF OUTLINE OF THIS SCENE

THIS SCENE STARTS OF WF 50 CENT AND HIS GANG PLANNING ARMD ROBBERY, THEY USE A LITTLE WHITE KID AT THE START TO KNOCK ON THE DOOR HOLDNG A BAG FOR THE MONEY, THEN 50 CENT APPEARS WITH A GUN AND THE ROBBERY BEGINS, THIS BRINGS TO MY TOPIC ON WHY GANGS ARE CREATED IN FILMS AND WHAT IS THEIR PURPOSE? IN THIS CASE, THE PURPOSE OF THIS GANG IN GET RICH OR DIE TRYING IS TO OUTLINE THE STEREOTYPE OF A GANG BY ROBBING OTHERES AND USING WEAPONS TO COMFORM THE TYPICAL STEREOTYPE OF WHAT TYPE OF GANGS THERE ARE, THE EVIDENCE WHICH BACKS MY POINT HERE IS NOT AVAILABLE SO SOMEHOW THIS MAY SEEM AS A BIASED VIEW OF MY VIEW OF GANGS.

MIGRAIN ANALYSIS OF GET RICH OR DIE TRYING TRAILER

M = very fast paced trailer, lots of jump cut scenes, starts with a voiceover and it sounds like a person who's "in control" due to the deepness of his voice. The sound track used is also parallel which accompanies the scenes in the trailer. The key settings shown in the trailer are club, recording studio and streets. The props used are DJ equipment, car. The costumes worn by the actors are mainly 'tracksuits' and 'hooded tops' this makes the primary audience relate to the film.

Ins = Paramount/ ISA/ MTV FILMS

G = MUSICAL FILM/ACTION

R = Black men are stereotypically represented as 'thugz' in this film which relates to my topic of gangs, the gang in this trailer are out to kill and threaten lifes and to act large and in charge

A = The primary audience for this film are young middle class people aged 14-25 who enjoy musical/ reality films.

Id = patriarchal society of male dominance - less females in the film

N = Levi Strauss? binary opposition of 50 cent once being a thug and a leader of a gang and then suddenly changing to leave his gang and focus on his music.

Independant Study Proposal - Representation of Gangs

For my Independant Study,I have decided to concentrate on the REPRESENTATION of GANGS and the purpose of gangs in films and in todays society

I have chosen this topic due to I have seen the film many times and have dont some analysis fully of the film for my practical production before, here I will look in more depth of the gangs in Get rich or Die trying and the purpose of the formation of the gang. the question I will be answering is: "Has the development of gangs changed in todays society or are they same?"

I will be referring to many films that involve gangs.. but not for the same reason. films like Get rich or die trying have gangs who are represented in a stereotypical way such as the robbery scene at the beginning which I will be going a MIGRAIN analysis on shortly but also, I'll be doing extra research in the summer about the history of gangs, and the development of gangs; have they changed in todays society or are they the same?

i will also borrow books from libraries which relate to my topic, I have recently borrowed a book called "AGGRESSION AND VIOLENCE" by Peter Marsh and ANNE CAMPBELL which is a book that talks about agression and violence over the past centuries and also talks about violent situations and also shows statistics and pictures to support the evidence. There's also chapters about my chosen topic of gangs
